There are many stories about hypnosis and hypnotherapy being dangerous, turning people into chickens, people not being able to wake up, and unscrupulous hypnotists exploiting their ‘vulnerable’ patients. However there are many people who are adamant that it has helped change their lives, some from Dudley, Tipton, Wolverhampton and much further afield – I know of for sure. I have helped them succeed in their goals. Millions of people swear that it has helped them with many issues such as weight loss, quitting smoking, other addictions, confidence, phobias, stress, success, IBS, and many more issues.

Many people are missing out on this powerful, yet very safe therapeutic tool because they are too afraid to use it. I hope to dispel these fears by answering these common questions about hypnotherapy right here and now!.

Can I be hypnotised? Most people can go into a hypnotic trance. The only types of people that cannot be hypnotised are … 1. Those suffering from psychosis or a thought disorder 2. A person with a low IQ 3. A person who does not want to be hypnotised. It is very easy to resist hypnosis if you want to.
What is a hypnotic trance? It is a normal and natural state that most of us experience several times a day without even knowing it. It commonly happens when people are driving. Enemy Within

On World Mental Health Day, Monday 10 October, we launched a campaign to battle the stigma of psychological disorders that prevents hundreds of Veterans from seeking help.

This second phase of The Enemy Within Appeal is planned to last two years.

The campaign, funded by Comic Relief, will address the stigma that surrounds Veterans’ mental health disorders. It will raise awareness of our services, and battle the perception of shame that deters these brave ex-Service men and women from seeking treatment for their mental wounds.

OCD Have a compulsion?

If you have OCD, you may have repeated obsessions and/or compulsions that make you feel anxious ( search this site to see anxiety for detail of this). Everyone has unwanted, troubling thoughts occasionally, for example, worrying that the oven has been left on. But if you have OCD, these thoughts are more common and can seem more important.

Symptoms of OCD

OCD symptoms vary from mild to severe. They include obsessions (thoughts or feelings) that make you feel distressed or anxious, and compulsions (actions) which you feel necessary to perform to cancel out the obsession. It is most common to have both obsessions and compulsions, but you can also have either alone. You may have more than one obsession and/or compulsion.

The most common obsessions are:
thinking or feeling objects are dirty or contaminated worrying about health and hygiene fear about safety and security, for example, doors left unlocked or appliances left switched on pre-occupation with order and symmetry religious or anti-religious thoughts disturbing thoughts about aggression or sex the urge to hoard useless things You may carry out compulsive behaviours to counteract the anxiety caused by your obsessions. These may be obvious actions, or just things you do in your mind.

The most common compulsions are:

  • checking to make sure things are safe (such as gas taps and locks)
  • cleaning and washing, either yourself (e.g., hand washing), or your surroundings
  • repeating acts in a particular way
  • mental compulsions (e.g., repeating certain phrases or prayers in your mind)ordering things for symmetry or exactness
  • hoarding or collecting things that are useless.

Compulsions are usually related to the type of obsession you are experiencing. For example, you may repeatedly wash your hands if you have obsessions about dirt or contamination. […]

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder isn’t an exclusive for war veterans! Anyone can have it given they have been in the wrong place at the wrong time so to speak. That’s not dispelling or minimising the after affects of war either.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can affect people who have been in natural disasters, air crashes, boat sinking ‘s, in fact accidents and catastrophic events even a car accident PSTD can affect you.

Here are some facts about PTSD.

It’s natural to be afraid when you’re in danger. It’s natural to be upset when something bad happens to you or your loved ones or even someone you know. But if you feel afraid and upset weeks or months later, it’s time to talk with your doctor. You might have post-traumatic stress disorder.

What is post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD?

PTSD is a real illness I’ll make that quite clear. You can get PTSD after living through or experiencing or seeing a dangerous event, such as war, a hurricane, or bad accident. PTSD makes you feel stressed and afraid even after the ‘REAL’ danger is over. It affects your life and the people around you.

If you have PTSD, you can get treatment and feel better.

Who gets PTSD?

  1. PTSD can happen to anyone at any age.
  2. Children get PTSD too.
  3. Witnessing domestic violence could trigger it
  4. You don’t have to be physically hurt to get PTSD. You can get it after you see other people, such as a friend or family member, get hurt.

What causes PTSD?

Living through or seeing something that’s upsetting and dangerous can cause PTSD. This can include:

  1. Being a victim of or seeing violence
  2. The death or serious illness of a loved one
  3. War or combat
  4. Car accidents and plane crashes

Children’s panic attacks grow as exams increase

CHILDREN are feeling increasingly worn out by exams, research shows today. Many have to take at least 75 tests and assessments during their school careers.

Panic attacks, eating disorders and sleeplessness were some of the symptoms of “examophobia” uncovered in a survey by teaching unions and the Children’s Society. More than half of girls feel stress over exams, but less than half of boys do, the findings suggest. Very few of either sex said that they enjoyed revising and taking exams.

Exams were a £150 million a year drain on resources, an average of £35,000 per secondary school, said Geoffrey Carver, vice-chairman of the Professional Association of Teachers. A child who starts school at four and leaves after A-levels at 18 will do a minimum of 75 public exams and that number is about to grow with the expansion of AS-levels, he said.

PAT and the Secondary Heads Association said the survey was the largest of its kind, with 8,000 responses from children aged 11 to 18. Margaret Griffin, the president of the Secondary Heads Association, called for the reintroduction of coursework at GCSE and A-level. It gave children who did not have the self-confidence and ability of high-fliers more of a chance to “prove their prowess”.

More testing was to come with the latest curriculum revisions, she said, and there was a danger that children could be turned off education in greater numbers and leave school at the first opportunity.
