Stress Is The Life Killer

Stress is the greatest problem for people in the modern world, and it’s much worse than just health problems such as Strokes, heart attacks and hypertension that are brought on by too much stress for way too long. Stress impacts EVERYTHING. 90% of all illness has its roots in stress.

Stress kills our libido, impacts on fertility, our enjoyment of life; stress causes disturbed emotions of anger, rage, sadness and depression; stress makes us clumsy; stress causes us to make mistakes and worst of all, stress makes us think stupid thoughts (we become “stress stupid”) and it cuts off the internal flow to our creative and innate talents and abilities.

It is clear that we ALL need to de-stress, whether we are teenagers who suffer from acne and migraines as a result of stress, men and women in “anger management”, authors who suffer from writer’s block even, business people who burst a blood vessel, or parents at home who aren’t enjoying their kids but end up screaming at them all the time instead.

So how do we de-stress, and urgently, and FAST?

Meditating and meditation is the act of entering into altered states of consciousness, to widen our conscious awareness and to re-connect with the super subconsciousness of our energy mind, our subconscious mind, subconsciousness if you like.

This does not happen when we are stressed – a person under stress is like a TV that isn’t tuning properly. Everything is disturbed, mad, doesn’t fit together, there is no clarity, life is full of static.

Are You Susceptible To Hypnosis?

A person’s susceptibility to hypnosis is dependent on several factors. Whether these factors work together or oppose each other is entirely in the hands of the individual being hypnotised.

There are factors that are outside of anyone’s control. They come down to the individual makeup of each individual person. For instance, if someone is naturally susceptible to suggestion in their everyday life, they likely will carry along that susceptibility in the hypnosis process as well. Everyone is susceptible to some degree, but this is one of the variables that will contribute to a person’s likelihood of achieving hypnosis very easily.

But there are varying degrees of depth of hypnosis, and hypnotherapy doesn’t require a deep state of hypnosis or ‘sleep’. It can be beneficial at varying levels of depth. The self hypnosis CDs and downloads that I have produced are designed to take someone from a completely awake state into some degree of hypnosis. The deeper they let themselves go the better they feel and the better they feel the deeper they go. Deep relaxation and release of the days pressures can be achieved.

Susceptibility to suggestion is also impacted by repetition. The more you hear a message, the more likely you will be to able accept it is as fact, to buy into it, whether consciously or not. Well let’s have a look at life briefly to establish Why do I need Help?
We are all born with a clean memory. We become what we have experienced to a degree. As we go through life we have good and bad experiences with those around us and things that happen to us, or, our closest family.

Problems in human beings do not necessarily emerge overnight. As I have already said they are an accumulation of experiences. Things we put into our life’s rucksack if you like. They tend to evolve over time. Some things we deal with satisfactorily, others may be firewalled because they are too big to deal right there and then, or, just too painful at that time of the event. Unresolved emotions or feelings from long ago which have slipped from conscious into subconscious memory, all may have an impact on your current ‘being’ and your perceived feeling of wellness.

Childhood trauma, stressful relationships, work issues, bereavement, divorce, and accidents, war, sudden shocks, all can have an impact on the whole that is an individual human being. Mind body and soul to some can feel the effect internally as well as externally.

When problems do occur many people tend to assume that they will just go away, or disappear if we ‘don’t go there’ as we feel the body has its own innate healing processes. All will be well, they think if they ignore things. Hypnosis appears to lessen the pain and emotional distress of people who are trapped or injured after accidents, Haguenau station manager David Ernenwein said.

Fire brigades keep a person under hypnosis in a vehicle during an extrication exercise, on May 28, 2013 in Haguenau, eastern France.

“Look me straight in the eye. Your mind is emptying, your body is relaxing,” says the fireman, using the calming words of hypnosis to help a trauma victim — a technique being pioneered by fire crews in the eastern French region of Alsace.

At the Haguenau fire station, 120 firemen have been trained in basic medical hypnosis which they can use to soothe someone trapped under rubble or in a car following an accident, or even a person suffering an asthma attack.

The idea is that hypnotherapy can complement traditional first aid assistance.

“These are verbal, gesticular and respiratory techniques that aim to ease pain and anxiety, but that obviously don’t replace traditional first aid,” explains Cecile Colas-Nguyen, a nurse and member of the fire brigade, and a trainer in hypnosis.

While firefighters arriving on the scene of an accident get to work tending to the injured or cutting a victim free, staff trained in hypnosis establish a more personal link with the person and divert his attention away from the trauma of the scene.

Dr Natheera Indrasenan was a guest on the Late Show a few weeks ago and her self-hypnosis technique to aid a good night’s sleep has proved so popular that we have decided to publish this page to help all you insomniacs out there!

This self hypnosis technique was taught to me by Paul McKenna during Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) training and is originally by Betty Erickson, wife of the great hypnotist Dr. Milton H. Erickson.

Safety:

I like this technique  because you are in control and it results in a much lighter trance than you would get from professional hypnosis, so that you can easily wake from it if you need to. It is simple to use in bed to induce sleep, but to this end, only use this technique in bed and never when you have to be alert for driving, operating heavy machinery etc.

How it works:

Hypnosis is communication with our subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is the thinking, judging, evaluating mind. Your subconscious mind is more like a computer which does as you say as long as you communicate with it in the language it understands; pictures, sounds, feelings. Some of my patients find they are busy all day and tired, get to bed and then wake up. This is because the conscious, thinking mind now has the opportunity to mull over all their worries which keeps them awake. As they think to themselves “I cant sleep”, imagine themselves staying up all night, feeling stressed, their subconscious mind (understanding the images and feelings) ensures they get what they want!   It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you have OCD, you may have repeated obsessions and/or compulsions that make you feel anxious ( search this site to see anxiety for detail of this). Everyone has unwanted, troubling thoughts occasionally, for example, worrying that the oven has been left on. But if you have OCD, these thoughts are more common and can seem more important.

Symptoms of OCD

OCD symptoms vary from mild to severe. They include obsessions (thoughts or feelings) that make you feel distressed or anxious, and compulsions (actions) which you feel necessary to perform to cancel out the obsession. It is most common to have both obsessions and compulsions, but you can also have either alone. You may have more than one obsession and/or compulsion.

The most common obsessions are:
thinking or feeling objects are dirty or contaminated worrying about health and hygiene fear about safety and security, for example, doors left unlocked or appliances left switched on pre-occupation with order and symmetry religious or anti-religious thoughts disturbing thoughts about aggression or sex the urge to hoard useless things You may carry out compulsive behaviours to counteract the anxiety caused by your obsessions. These may be obvious actions, or just things you do in your mind.

The most common compulsions are:

  • checking to make sure things are safe (such as gas taps and locks)
  • cleaning and washing, either yourself (e.g., hand washing), or your surroundings
  • repeating acts in a particular way
  • mental compulsions (e.g., repeating certain phrases or prayers in your mind)ordering things for symmetry or exactness
  • hoarding or collecting things that are useless.

Compulsions are usually related to the type of obsession you are experiencing. For example, you may repeatedly wash your hands if you have obsessions about dirt or contamination. […]

Thanks largely to the work of Peter Whorwell of Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, hypnosis is now acknowledged by the medical profession as an effective treatment for IBS. However, Peters research doesn’t mean that it is universal one size fits all. It is the opinion of NICE that hypnosis is the best treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome after diagnosis and medication has failed or partly failed.

This said your doctor will not, unless you are one of the fortunate whose GP has trained as a Hypnotherapist, be able to give you hypnosis as a treatment. Not all ‘lay’ hypnotherapists will be able to help either you should consult a hypnotherapist who specialises and ideally who has had IBS themselves.

Millions of golfers stand at the first tee, address the ball, take their swing, and then wonder why they can’t achieve the coveted level of play that Tiger Woods has been known for year after year. “The answer is rigid training and, of course, total focus on your game,” explains Dr. Kenneth Grossman, internationally-known golf hypnotherapist. “Unfortunately, Mr. Woods has lost that intense game focus because of distracting and very negative mental chatter caused by his recent personal issues.”

Dr. Grossman, who was recently quoted in a Time Magazine article (April 4, 2010 Edition), “Tiger at the Masters: A Test of Mental Preparation”, has been counseling professional golfers and other athletes around the world for over 30 years. “One of the major problems with golfers is that they can drag all their problems such as marriage, health, money, and low self-confidence issues with them at every hole.” He went on to point out that, “Many golfers not only carry their golf bag around 18 holes but they also drag an even heavier bag of personal problems as well. This excess baggage is a major cause of sub-par performance.”
