Reduce stress, anxiety and depression in children – A primary school has hired a hypnotherapist to help children as young as four cope with ‘stress and depression’. St Mary’s CE School in Rawtenstall, in Lancashire, has hired Anne Cartridge, 48, to run workshops with staff so they can pass on their anti-stress tips to the 194-primary school pupils.  The mother-of-two, who runs a course called ‘In Mind Therapies’, has already run workshops with youth volunteers at the school.   Ms Cartridge said her courses reduce stress, anxiety and depression in children as young as four.

St Mary’s CE School in Rawtenstall, in Lancashire, has hired Anne Cartridge, 48, to run workshops with staff so they can pass on their anti-stress tips to the 194-primary school pupils The NHS does not currently recommend hypnotherapy for clinical practice, and while it is practised by some doctors, dentists, psychologists and counsellors, it’s also offered by non-professionals with little training.  This is because in the UK, hypnotherapists don’t have to join any organisation or have any specific training by law. Ms Cartridge explained: ‘A lot of my work is dealing with anxiety, stress and depression.’If those issues are dealt with in primary school, young people can cope better in high school and it helps them feel more in control as an adult.

Don’t worry – Experts say that chronic stress can wreak havoc on immune, metabolic and cardiovascular systems, and lead to atrophy of the brain’s hippocampus–crucial for long-term memory and spatial navigation. Here’s something so that you start taking stress more seriously. People who suffer from chronic stress and anxiety may be at an increased risk for developing depression and even dementia, says a new study suggests. Experiencing anxiety, fear and stress is considered a normal part of life when it is occasional and temporary, such as feeling anxious and stressed before an exam or a job interview.

However, when those acute emotional reactions become more frequent or chronic, they can significantly interfere with daily living activities such as work, school and relationships, according to researchers at Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest Health Sciences in Canada. Chronic stress is a pathological state that is caused by prolonged activation of the normal acute physiological stress response, which can wreak havoc on immune, metabolic and cardiovascular systems, and lead to atrophy of the brain’s hippocampus –crucial for long-term memory and spatial navigation. Researchers examined recent evidence from studies of stress and fear conditioning in animal models, and neuroimaging studies of stress and anxiety in healthy individuals and in clinical populations. They looked specifically at key structures in the neurocircuitry of fear and anxiety (amygdala, medial prefrontal cortex, hippocampus) which are impacted during exposure to chronic stress.

Why is your job really stressful? In my survey conducted a few weeks back I realised a very crucial fact pertaining to professional careers A common question Is your job really stressful? was the theme of the survey. What was really uncommon was the result of the survey. I realised that a majority of the survey takers were happy with their job. Every morning was a new challenge to them as far as their jobs were concerned. However this was a positive feedback and contradicts the fact that many people are unhappy with their jobs. So I researched more on this topic. This is what I found out, 90% of the masses are happy with their job but extremely stressed because of many allied factors.

Here goes the boss’s pet, a phrase used commonly against people that try to be extra friendly to their seniors or bosses. This is mainly done with the motive to get noticed in the eyes of your seniors or bosses. People who are called so cause unavoidable stress to the rest of their colleagues. Why Hypnosis Is Better For Stress Than Meditating

Stress Is The Life Killer

Stress is the greatest problem for people in the modern world, and it’s much worse than just health problems such as Strokes, heart attacks and hypertension that are brought on by too much stress for way too long. Stress impacts EVERYTHING. 90% of all illness has its roots in stress.

Stress kills our libido, impacts on fertility, our enjoyment of life; stress causes disturbed emotions of anger, rage, sadness and depression; stress makes us clumsy; stress causes us to make mistakes and worst of all, stress makes us think stupid thoughts (we become “stress stupid”) and it cuts off the internal flow to our creative and innate talents and abilities.

It is clear that we ALL need to de-stress, whether we are teenagers who suffer from acne and migraines as a result of stress, men and women in “anger management”, authors who suffer from writer’s block even, business people who burst a blood vessel, or parents at home who aren’t enjoying their kids but end up screaming at them all the time instead.

Tips to Avoid a Panic Attack

In response to recent enquiries the National Council for Hypnotherapy has released a press release about anxiety and panic attacks which can often be aided by a course of hypnotherapy sessions. As the UK’s most renowned hypnotherapist directory the NCH offers local based hypnotherapists to help clients with a wide range of conditions, including that of panic attacks. In this press release the National Council for Hypnotherapy discusses some tips that can be applied by clients in order to control pending panic attacks.

A panic attack is the body’s exaggerated response to a perceived danger flipping the body into flight or fight mode, releasing a massive shot of adrenaline which speeds up the body’s heart rate, breathing and gives feelings of hotness, sweating, tingly and dry mouthed. Hypnotherapy can help the client to rethink and re learn about situations that may provoke a panic attack and teach them to apply the following techniques.

  •     Slow your breathing – Breath in and count to five and slowly exhale then repeat the process, increasing by 5 seconds until you reach 15, repeat until breathing returns to normal.
  •     Rationalise – remind yourself that these feelings are simply a response to adrenaline and are not permanent and will end soon.
  •     Cut Stimulants – try not to consume drinks with high levels of caffeine such as coffee and high sugared fizzy drinks as this increasing the heart rate which can result in naturally higher adrenaline rates.
  •     Remove yourself Mentally from the Situation – focus on your left shoe and describe it in great detail as if you are submitting a witness report. Ensure to describe fine detail like the buckles, laces and soles which will keep your mind occupied […]

CBT on prescription, pick it up at the library? Wiltshire embraces new scheme to help depression through reading

A new scheme which uses reading to help the six million people in England who suffer from conditions such as depression and anxiety, is now available to access in libraries across Wiltshire.

Reading Well Books on Prescription will enable GPs and other health professionals to recommend 30 self-help titles for people to borrow from the local library. The service, which launched nationally last Tuesday, is now being put into place in public libraries across England.

It is a joint initiative from independent charity The Reading Agency and the Society of Chief Librarians, working with local library services and LIFT Psychology Teams, and offers people self-help books from the library as part of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) prescribed by a health professional.

Wiltshire Council, in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, will both have multiple copies of the core list of 30 titles covering issues such as anxiety, depression, phobias, panic attacks, bulimia and sleep problems. The titles will be available to borrow free of charge from local library branches or online through the request service.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for libraries, said: “This scheme will allow anyone in Wiltshire, in need of such support, to access self-help books locally and for free. Our libraries are friendly, community focused places, so I am delighted we are able to participate and help support the health and well-being of many local people.”

The National Council for Hypnotherapy Responds to Hypnotism Being Used to Help Victims in Traumatic Situations

According to Connexion France in an article published on the 24th June 2013, the complementary therapy hypnotherapy has been used to help victims of traumatic situations, helping them to remain calm and focus on relaxing situations rather than the traumatic situation they are currently in. At Haguenau fire station in France some 120 fire-fighters have been trained in basic medical hypnosis in order to soothe victims of accidents and serious traumas. The idea is that hypnosis can be used alongside traditional medical techniques to help the patient physically and mentally. The fire-fighters tend to establish an interest or like of the patient and use hypnosis to help them imagine that, ‘While my colleagues take care of your safety, your mind will take off to the ski slopes and your body is going to stay here,” explained a trained member of the team.

Describing the effectiveness of hypnotherapy station manager David Ernenwein said:

“We have all noticed that when we hold someone’s hand, things go better, even if we did not label it as hypnosis. The first thing we can do to help people is to calm them down, and this technique has given us the tools to be able to do that, to help people suffer less.”

The introduction of such techniques is supported by UK based hypnotherapist directory, The National Council for Hypnotherapy. A representative from the Council explained:
