Get the edge, Be a great performer

Sports Hypnosis Get the edge, Be a great performer

Whether you simply want to feel more motivated to go to the gym, or whether you need a competitive edge to win. I use hypnosis to eliminate many obstacles that can be removed from your mind leading you effortlessly towards your goals and desires.

Sports hypnosis is now in the mainstream of sports development. The mind is part of the art of great performance – no mental direction – no performance. The points raised below will allow you to appreciate the importance of non interrupted and controlled visualisation that can achieve the desired results. The history of hypnosis in sport goes back to the 1956 Olympics where the Russians are testament to that winning for what is now the  Soviet Union 37 (Gold)     29 (Silver)     32 (bronze)     98 (total)

They took 11 hypnotherapists to the games.

The biggest percentage of sports people coming to visit Sports hypnotherapists tends to be those wishing to improve their golf. However, hypnosis can be equally useful with all kinds of individual and competitive sports. The greatest of champions and athletes also tend to be the ones who have learned to think successfully, they have mastered the psychology of their individual sport. You can do this too…

Hypnosis in sports performance is focussed on enhancing the mental state of that sports-person or team. Achieving the edge in competition, one contestant over another is what its all about. Could be described as YOUR secret weapon, no one need know if you don’t wish them too. Consultations are done usually away from the ‘Club’ Track or Field. Hypnosis is the edge that many top sports-people use to take their game from one of that of ‘also rand’ to an out and out Winner.

Many sports-people, trainers and even commentators talk about being in the ‘The Zone’. The place you need to be, to be the best. You know that place, where you are entirely focused on the moment, that moment of NOW, where you can ignore distractions, where your emotions are balanced and you are centred and focussed on the task at hand  – this is in fact a form or level of trance. So, clearly, hypnosis will help you find ‘The Zone’ more quickly when you most need it most. You will be taught how to set up a trigger to take you to ‘The Zone‘ more quickly. This can encompass any ritual you have to make you feel ‘at home’ focussed and centred on the job and only the job in hand dispelling all other things, in on or around you. Then you experience the feeling of being in The Zone and You Know that you are ready to make that shot, pitch, put or race etc. work.

More about Sports Hypnotherapy

Studies have shown that visualisation is as effective as reality in improving sports performance. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to be physically up to your game. I work with your mind. Your coach or pro works with the other elements that make you great. Having both of us on your team we can get you to be the ‘Winner’ you want to be

What this does mean is that if a you can visualise your routine, and really experience every muscle movement needed to carry that out, then those muscle groups will ‘fire’ providing energy at the appropriate time and delivering just the right amount. These controlled bursts of energy allow the sports-person to conserve their strength, minimizing effort where it’s not needed and maximizing power where it is.

The brain can fix these perfect movements and memories in your subconscious, and you can create a memory, both mental and physically of that event or sequence. The stronger the emotion experienced when producing that memory (for subconscious and body) the more chemicals are released into the brain, the more the memory will remember what’s right for that circumstance. This form of visualisation is a form of self-hypnosis resulting in a light waking trance heightening the experience in your mind.

Developing that further in deeper hypnosis. It is easier to become completely absorbed and enveloped in that experience, and its possible to feel the emotion of winning and fixing that routine and rhythm into what in turn turns into a ‘event or body memory’. This ‘event or body memory’ is one of the things we are trying to achieve, this feeling of being in The Zone and right technical mode, with the body in the right position etc.

YOUR coach and I and combined with YOUR constant repetition of training using all these new skills will help you excel. Its fortunate once you master YOUR movement right every time in training, you may actually be fixing some faults in your performance and see for yourself the difference in overall performance.

However sometimes especially when emotions run high (Anger/Panic) when you can be prone to make a mistake, with hypnosis we can even give you strategies to cope to get back on track quickly and still experience delivering a winning performance.

The list of benefits for using hypnosis to improve your sports performance is long but some of them include:

Studies have been made on the use of visualisation. It has been found to be as effective as reality in improving sports performance – Sally Gunnell mentally rehearsed her 400 meters hurdles race at least 10 times everyday for several months before her Gold medal winning performance at the Barcelona Olympics.

When we train we really experience every muscle movement to carry it out, then those memory muscle groups will fire (Opinion remains divided. Some experts believe that small neuro muscular firings provide sufficient feedback from imaging feedback to allow for changes in performance), the brain can fix these perfect movements, and you can create a memory, both mental and physical (event memory).

The stronger the emotion you experience when producing a the more chemicals released into the brain, the more the memory will fix that memory in your brain.

Visualisation is in fact a form of self-hypnosis resulting in a light waking trance. With deeper hypnosis it is easier to become completely immersed in that experience and the emotion of winning, so fixing the body memory.

  • Visualisation allows you to practice and prepare for events and eventualities you can never  train for in reality. With practice it allows you to enter a situation you have never physically experienced.
  • Visualisation allows you to prepare and practice your response to physical and psychological problems that do not occur normally. This means if they do occur you respond confidently.
  • Visualisation allows you to pre-experience the achievements of goals, This in turn helps to give you confidence that these goals can be achieved and allows you to increase your performance.
  • Practising the relaxed state of hypnosis helps you to break down the complex skills into constituent parts so that you can isolate where problems are. This body memory is one of the things we are trying to achieve with constant repetition of training. Unfortunately unless you are able to get the movement right every time in training you may actually be fixing some faults into your performance, especially if emotions run high when you make a mistake. In hypnosis you can make every experience a winning performance.

Most Champions use some form of hypnosis whether it’s direct hypnosis, visualisation  and or affirmation and many seek the help of a professional clinical hypnotherapist or sports Hypnotherapist or psychologist to assist in their mental training.

Sports Hypnotists differ from Psychologists, in that they work directly with the subconscious part of the brain, the part that controls our behaviours, so change with hypnosis is often rapid.

What we do and what don’t we do?

We, that is hypnotherapists who work with sports teams or individual people, assist coaches and trainers get the best out of their teams or individuals by developing the player ‘holistically’ things learnt with the hypnotherapist can equally be applied to business and management, and often are a general life improver, by looking at things and treating things differently with another set of eyes and mind if you like differing from the mindset before they started the course.

We help in the following areas

Tactics for football, netball, golf, basketball, swimming you name the sport in fact all sports that you can imagine don’t always just come down to training and a clever game plan. A player’s and teams psychological elements have become increasingly important and these can include the use of hypnosis, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques).

Hypnosis has been used by professional athletes and Olympic teams for many years now, as you can see from above all nations are now encompassing sports hypnosis into their training programmes. Why, simple, to give them a mental advantage over their opponents.

If you take part in sport you will be familiar with those annoying moments that happen when some distracting thoughts, a peripheral vision event, self-doubt, memory of a past failure, lack of certainty or some bad habit cuts through your performance, for what may be a tiny moment in time.  Yet this tiny moment in time has just lost you the flow of concentrated play, and in retrospect, this tiny moment in time is what changed the outcome of the game.  And you lost?

This can be changed call 01384 621857

This is where hypnosis can help.  Sports hypnosis gives players and athletes the ability to perform automatically with the best techniques. Hypnosis opens the subconscious mind to accept and achieve perfection.  Playing any sport competitively requires an eighty per cent mental focus and agility. If you don’t possess it don’t think your going to beat the other guy. Hypnosis can trigger this state of mental focus and agility.  One example of a famous sports personality who uses sports hypnosis to great advantage is as you have seen is Tiger Woods.

Although many people have strange ideas about hypnosis, due to stage hypnosis, hypnosis is nothing more than a relaxed state of consciousnessA therapist can also create an environment that can evoke calmness and a focussed mind.

This then enables a player/athlete to be unaware of any distraction  from spectators or distracting thoughts and results in a more natural flowing concentrated but almost automatic sports performance in the moment. This approach is not exclusive to the famous it is also used by Juniors and Amateur players alike, who wish to play their sport as well as possible, for enjoyment and of course the pleasure of giving a top performance.

Through hypnosis a therapist can access and guide the outcome to a response, so that an athlete reacts without compensation, hesitation and utilises the proper techniques the coach has taught.

Think about that feeling that comes when driving on the motorway or highway. When you’ve been driving a number of hours may be without a break, you seem to be driving on a  kind of on auto-pilot, when your reactions seem like second nature and it seems to be effortless. You may have even wondered why you don’t remember passing junction number sew and sew. is this familiar? Then this is how it feels like to be hypnotised.  There is nothing odd about that feeling you experience on the motorway, in fact it is quite natural and healthy state. That is the same state as hypnosis THAT Is IT! It is in this very state that you can achieve YOUR Best success in your sport, or for that matter, any given area, with less effort.

Want to experience this?
Then call 01384 621857

For sports people, whether professional or amateur, the therapist can weed out any bad habits or counter-productive thought patterns fears or anger  responses and will work with you to replace these at a subconscious level with better strategies, that will come to you automatically when you play the sport after YOUR hypnosis sessions.

Having read the above and got this far you are serious about improving your game. There is no fixed amounts of sessions but  you will know yourself when you feel that great natural confidence and automatic ability to play to your best ability.

After all… it was Napoleon Hill who once said

There is no failure, we just didn’t succeed. Edison had many attempts at making the filament for a light bulb. If he had adopted the failure approach he would not have succeeded. We would still be in the dark today he just used his feedback to modify his next attempt … So should You. Long term outcomes = mentally rehearsing the winning of an event or a peak performance, remember what I just said! This can only be risky if you work to a success or failure model. Imagine if you could never fail – NO Failure, Only Feedback You modify your actions from your feed back and then Succeed!
