Well let’s have a look at life briefly to establish Why do I need Help?
We are all born with a clean memory. We become what we have experienced to a degree. As we go through life we have good and bad experiences with those around us and things that happen to us, or, our closest family.

Problems in human beings do not necessarily emerge overnight. As I have already said they are an accumulation of experiences. Things we put into our life’s rucksack if you like. They tend to evolve over time. Some things we deal with satisfactorily, others may be firewalled because they are too big to deal right there and then, or, just too painful at that time of the event. Unresolved emotions or feelings from long ago which have slipped from conscious into subconscious memory, all may have an impact on your current ‘being’ and your perceived feeling of wellness.

Childhood trauma, stressful relationships, work issues, bereavement, divorce, and accidents, war, sudden shocks, all can have an impact on the whole that is an individual human being. Mind body and soul to some can feel the effect internally as well as externally.

When problems do occur many people tend to assume that they will just go away, or disappear if we ‘don’t go there’ as we feel the body has its own innate healing processes. All will be well, they think if they ignore things. But if you overlook problems they may later manifest themselves in physical ills later in life such as – frequent colds, headaches, migraines, stomach disorders , IBS, heart attack and stroke etc.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy has been rooted in science with evidence based results reported for many years. Although the American Medical Association (AMA) currently has no clear position on the effectiveness of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, in 1958, the AMA reported hypnotherapy has a recognized place in the medical armamentarium and is a useful technique in the treatment of certain illnesses.

Hypnotherapy is considered an effective adjunct in psychotherapy for many issues, and more are being studied. On its own, hypnotherapy is reported to be beneficial: In 2001, the British Psychological Society commissioned a group of expert psychologists and published a report that declared hypnosis a proven therapeutic medium and valid for study.

The report went on to say hypnotherapy is beneficial for a wide range of issues encountered in medicine, psychology and psychiatry with regard to stress, anxiety, pain, and psychosomatic illnesses. Some illnesses described are insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and migraines, asthma and a variety of skin maladies. Weight reduction was also cited as benefiting from hypnotherapy.

A comparison study reported in 2007 by American Health Magazine indicates some psychological issues benefit more from hypnotherapy than psychoanalysis and behavior therapy.  A German university meta-analysis of 444 studies supported this claim, concluding a 64 percent success rate with hypnotherapy for stress, anxiety and chronic pain.

CLAIRE’S headaches as she gave up Diet Coke are more likely to be down to caffeine withdrawal than the sweetener.Her 2424mg of aspartame a day is unlikely to have done any lasting harm. But I can only imagine the bloating she felt consuming such large  quantities of gassy drinks. On every level, kicking her four-litre a day habit is a step towards better health. Hopefully she can one day enjoy the odd can in moderation.

A MUM told yesterday how she guzzled so much Diet Coke she was diagnosed as ADDICTED.

Thirsty Claire Ayton, 36, ended up needing a fizzy “fix” of SEVEN PINTS a day.

She said yesterday after finally beating a ten-year addiction to the low-calorie treat with the help of a hypnotherapist: “I’d drink it all day.

“People used to comment at how many bottles we bought.”

Teaching assistant Claire reckons that since getting hooked at the age of 26 she knocked back a whopping 25,692 pints — or 14,600 litres.

By the end she was buying 14 two-litre bottles a week — and it was costing her £1,300 a year. But none of the fizz was for husband Des, 37, who runs a car parts business, or sons Conor, 14, and Ellis, 12.

Claire, of Pailton, Warwicks, said: “It was me who drank it all.”

Eventually hypnotherapist Russell Hemming got her to quit her habit by going cold turkey.

One of the most useful articles to be published recently was arguably Wark’s review of those studies on hypnotherapy that were rated as meeting the Chambless & Hollon (1998) criteria for “empirically-supported treatments” in the field of psychology, known as ESTs for short.  It may not surprise many NCH members to know that when the research literature on psychotherapy was previously reviewed by a task force of nineteen psychologists led by Prof. Dianne Chambless most of the psychological therapies identified as “empirically-supported” (formerly termed “empirically-validated”) tended to be specific forms of cognitive and/or behaviour therapy (CBT).  Most forms of psychotherapy, ranging from the more controversial and pseudoscientific ones to some of the more “respectable” and mainstream approaches, do not meet these strict criteria for empirical support.  However, one study was identified which demonstrated that cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy (CBH) was “probably efficacious” for weight loss in obese clients.  In this respect, hypnotherapy might (tentatively) be said to […]

The importance of an early diagnosis of gluten intolerance (coeliac disease) cannot be over stressed.  Left undiagnosed and untreated, coeliac disease carries a higher risk of developing osteoporosis, infertility and bowel cancer later on in life.

If you do have coeliac disease, a gluten free diet could change your life within weeks… but first, get a diagnosis.

Feeling tired, IBS symptoms, urgency to use the toilet after eating, nausea, mouth ulcers, diarrhoea, bloating, wind, constipation, headaches, depression, bone and joint pain, weight loss, anaemia…. the list goes on and could mean you have IBS but any one of these symptoms could also mean that you have coeliac disease (gluten intolerance).

Unlike IBS, coeliac disease (also spelt celiac) is a risk factor for other diseases such as bowel cancer, infertility and osteoporosis. Early diagnosis is essential. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people originally diagnosed with IBS actually have coeliac disease.

In 2006 and 2007 the home coeliac test was used to test MPs at the House of Commons as part of an awareness raising event by Coeliac UK, a charity providing support and advice for people diagnosed with coeliac disease.

A report in the British Medical Journal  which studied 2690 children and 120 adults showed that the finger prick blood test for coeliac disease was as accurate as hospital laboratory tests (Korponay-Szabo et al. BMJ 2007;335;1244-1247).
